en.wikipedia.org — The U.S-Thai Treaty of Amity, formally known as the Treaty of Amity and Economic Relations, was signed at Bangkok on May 29, 1966. The treaty allows for American citizens and businesses incorporated in the U.S, or in Thailand to maintain a majority shareholding or to wholly own its company in Thailand, and thereby engage in business on the same basis as would a Thai national. These companies are also exempt from most of the restrictions on foreign investment imposed by the Foreign Business Act of 1999. The treaty in effect allows for an equality of benefits between the countries. American companies who wish to be covered by the Treaty of Amity should have a minimum of 50% American directors and a minimum of 51% of shares must be held by American citizens.
Under the U.S.-Thai Treaty of Amity, Thailand restricts American investment only in the following fields of business:[1]

nationmultimedia.com — Children growing up in the deep South where an insurgency has been raging for years show symptoms of anxiety and stress, but do not blame religion as a cause of the unrest, a United Nations survey has found.
"We are committed to raising awareness of the situation of these children and enabling them to tell their own story and to ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are respected," Tomoo Hozumi, the Thailand representative for the United Nations Children's Fund, said yesterday.
The report called "Everyday Fears: Children's perceptions of living in the southern border area of Thailand" also showed this group of children's positive thinking, that none of them expressed a biased or negative view of other religions. read more...

bangkokpost.com — Concerns over the global financial crisis which has started affecting the economy have prompted Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat to order concerned government agencies on Friday to accelerate long-delayed mega-projects, aimed at easing traffic congestion in the capital and surrounding areas, a deputy government spokeswoman said.
Suparat Nakboonnam said Mr Somchai told economic ministers during the meeting that disbursement of government budget and spending on mega-projects is now seen as vital as it could create employment and revenue for related industries such as the construction industry. read more...

nationmultimedia.com — Ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra could be brought back to face justice in Thailand if the government is serious about doing so, said legal experts.
Sak Kosaengruang, the former spokesman for the Asset Examination Committee, said authorities could ask Thai envoys posted overseas to help find Thaksin or could offer a bounty for the convicted expremier.
Over the weekend, it was confirmed that the UK had already revoked visas for Thaksin and his wife Khunying Pojaman to reenter the UK where the couple earlier lived in exile.
The whereabouts of Thaksin is not known, but Tej Bunnag, a former foreign minฌister, said yesterday that he believed Thaksin was currently in China. read more...

bangkokpost.com — Digging in their heels and refusing to budge, determined anti-government protesters of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) said they would not open the Makkhawan Rangsun Bridge on Bangkok's Ratchadamnern Nok Avenue which His Majesty the King and other royal family members would use to attend the royal cremation of the monarch's sister, the late Princess Galyani Vadhana, citing security of the demonstrators.
Pol. Maj-Gen. Panu Kerdlarppol, deputy chief of Bangkok's Metropolitan Police responsible for traffic affairs, said he was informed by PAD representative Samdin Lertbutr that the Peoples' Alliance had decided not to open Makkhawan Bridge for the free flow of traffic because the PAD core leaders feared that the PAD members would be at risk of attack. read more...

nationmultimedia.com —
Chamlong Srimuang, a leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, challenged Tuesday Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat to file defamation suits against those whom the PM accused of editing a video clip to cause him damage.
Somchai on Monday admitted he was the man in the video clip circulating on the Internet and posted on the Manager website, but claimed the video was edited with the intention of defaming him.
"This is a serious issue because he is accused of using office time to hook up with a woman. For this type of allegation, leaders of other countries would have resigned, if they had been accused,'' Chamlong said.
The video was shot by an unidentified cameraman between March 22 and 27 this year and was viewed more than 261,000 times in less than 24 hours after its posting on the Manager website.
The 25minute clip consists of four parts featuring: first, the man who resembles Somchai, in a red Mercedes picking up a woman in her 20s, in front of a convenience store. The couple are shown having dinner at a restaurant serving southernstyle Thai food. read more...
